"A comic fable set in the thirties during the Depression on Main

store; her daughter and others are mesmerized by Mendel Fish, a mysterious
stranger. The stranger claims to have come from 'the other side of Sambatyon'
(a mythical river). He sets about taking from the rich and giving to the
poor, and handling their 'investments' with aplomb and assurance.
