Conditions and Terms of Wireless Use at the
Eleanor London Cote-Saint-Luc Public Library

Library Disclaimer

Patrons connecting to our wireless network should be aware of the fact that all computers are susceptible to viruses and technical problems. While the library will make every effort to provide a safe wireless network where patrons can connect to the internet, it is the patron’s responsibility to ensure that their computer is equipped with all of the necessary software to protect it. All patrons using the network must have current anti-virusand firewall software already installed on their computers before connecting to our network. The library is not responsible for lack of knowledge regarding computer-safe practices (i.e. the risks of downloading music and opening attachments from unknown parties).

The library is not responsible for the following:

Any damage done to personal computers (hardware or software).

Lost or corrupted data due to electrical surges or malfunctions.

Situational lack of privacy

Lost or stolen property and/or information (including any computer-related equipment)

While on library premises, patrons are responsible for their computer as well as the information itself, at all times.

Wireless Access

Access to the wireless network is available during business hours from any area inside the library. The library is not responsible for the strength of the wireless signal; trying to access the wireless connection from another location inside the library, or waiting to see if the signal improves over time is recommended for those experiencing difficulty getting connected.

The library does not guarantee that every personal computer will function on our wireless internet connection. The library staff will not be available to provide assistance with any wireless internet access difficulties or troubleshooting. Patrons experiencing technical difficulties are encouraged to consult the owner’s manual, which should have accompanied their PC at the time of purchase, or to contact the company that manufactured it.

Persons without the equipment necessary for accessing the wireless network will be unable to connect to the internet. The library will not provide any such equipment either for purchase or loan.

Research and the Internet

It is the library’s goal to provide a safe and comfortable environment in which library users can pursue their interests. Patrons using the internet inside the library are not permitted to display any explicit information or material. This includes: racist, obscene, threatening, graphic and/or sexually explicit material; those found viewing such inappropriate content will have their wireless access suspended.

The library is not responsible for those under 18 years old who use the wireless internet access connection at the library to view material deemed inappropriate by parents or guardians.

Printing at the Library

Those requiring the use of a printer can save their work to a floppy disk and print from one of the library’s public computers. Access to the public computers is by appointment only and requires a valid library membership.
